Yoga is a sacred practice that dates back to almost 26,000 years ago or the time of ‘Sat Yuga’. The Satya Yuga, also called Sat Yuga, or Kṛta Yuga in Hinduism, is the first of the four Yugas, the “Yuga of Truth” when humanity is governed by gods, and every manifestation or work is close to the purest ideal and humanity will allow intrinsic goodness to rule supreme.
It was founded by Sage Patanjali in the city of Rishikesh that is now considered being the city of Yoga. It is a beautiful holy city situated at the foot of the Himalayas on the banks of River Ganges. Yoga stemmed from the Sanskrit word ‘Yuj’ which means ‘union’ or ‘joint’. As the name suggests, it is believed that the joints and the muscles within the body hold the union of our soul and all that energy the spirit carries with it.
Just as the waves in the ocean, the wind in the air, the orbiting of the Earth, have a flow, so do we. As our blood moves through the body, our energy does too. Yoga taps into the internal flow of energy to open evolutionary pathways to self-realization, connections, and the root of yoga. Continuous, intentional, conscious movements paired with breathing exercises support the body, giving it fresh energy and flow. Chakras align with the art and science of vitality, making it possible for us to connect to scared earth and all that is around us.
In a demanding society, there is often very little space or attention for oneself. This makes us easy targets for stress and exhaustion so that we are distracted from what we truly want, feel or are. Yoga is quite an intimate practice, and it requires you to delve within yourself and experience emotions, sensations, and feelings that you don’t otherwise notice in fast-paced yoga. Yoga is a slow, meditative practice with a focus on rejuvenating the natural strength and length of the connective tissue (fascia) of the body that may have been lost because of aging, diet and/or lifestyle. The direct effect on the connective tissue in combination with mindful muscle relaxation promotes the healthy flow of qi (energy) within the body, optimizing mental, physical and emotional health.
